Wanda Ellis Mitchell passed away on March 20, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born in DeQuincy, Louisiana, September 21,1928, to Samuel and Lila Mae Vincent. Wanda was a lifelong resident of Baytown, Texas. Upon graduating from Sam Houston State University, she began her teaching career in Goose Creek Independent School District, at Horace Mann Jr. High and Travis Elementary. She later taught for Pasadena Independent School District working with the visually handicapped, Special Education Counselor and Special Education Supervisor. She completed her career as a Guidance Counselor for Lee College in Baytown. Wanda served as a School Board Trustee for Goose Creek I. S. D., was active in Rotary International and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was the Director of the Baytown Historical Museum before retiring.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husbands James "Slick" Ellis, Seth H. Mitchell, son Dan Ross Ellis and brothers Lloyd Drexell Vincent and Gerald Vincent. She is survived by her daughter Jan Ellis Cuellar and husband Arnoldo Cuellar of Fredericksburg, Texas, grandson Vincent Xavier Cuellar and wife Nicole of Corpus Christi, Texas, grandson Joseph Daniel Cuellar of London, UK, daughter-in-law Rhonda Ellis of Kingwood, Texas, daughters Sharon Mitchell Sellers and husband Walt of Fayetteville, Georgia, Sandra Mitchell Hollander and husband Ira of Ft. Worth, Texas, sons Seth Mitchell and wife Laurie of San Antonio, Texas, John Mitchell and wife Kay of Ft. Worth, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crespo Jirrels Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 5-8 p.in. Graveside services will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery at 3 p.in. on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
A reception of friends and family will follow at the Baytown Historical Museum located at 220 W. Defee Avenue, Baytown, Texas 77520.
