Verna Mae Johnson Brown, 81, passed away at home, surrounded by family in LaPorte, Texas, on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
Verna was born January 30, 1939 in Coolidge, to parents; Zeno and Mary Freeman Johnson, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in LaPorte for the past 55 years. She was a graduate of Coolidge High School, received her associates degree in culinary arts from Lee College, was a member of San Jacinto Christian Church, and a retired bus driver. Verna also enjoyed cooking, being a caregiver for children, and spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, her sons: Tyrone Foy and Corie Foy Brown, sisters: Rodice Callaway and Gwendolyn Johnson, and brother: Louis Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 53 years: Jesse Brown, daughters: Tina Foy-Alphonse, Brenda Foy Lockette, and Shawntay Bell, one baby sister: Rosemary Johnson Moreland, grandchildren: Therrick Lockette, Alsone Foy, Tory Foy, Curtis Jones, Revis Davis, Trenton Porter, Alex Jones, Skye Foy, and Hannah Alphonse, son: Keith Johnson, stepson: Gregory Curry, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the San Jacinto Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the San Jacinto Christian Church in Baytown. Graveside services will follow at the Twi-Light Cemetery in LaPorte.
Due to the current Covid restrictions the funeral services will be limited to family attendance only, and all attendees are required to wear masks for safety.
