Sylvia Niño Cardona, 79, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother of Baytown, passed away Friday March 12, 2021 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 10, 1941 in Benavidez, Texas to parents, Jose Maria Niño and Cristina Estrada Niño. Sylvia was a long-time resident of Baytown who enjoyed spending time with family, listening and dancing to music, playing bingo, crafts and sewing, cooking, watching novellas, football, and baseball and she loved being on her iPad. She was known for her loving heart, generosity, and tenacity. Sylvia welcomed everyone into her home and always made sure everyone had a plate of food to eat. She leaves behind a lasting legacy and a large family that will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Guadalupe Salazar, son, Rene Cardona, grandson, Ruben Lee Cardona, Jr., brothers; Juan Jose Niño and Jose Maria Niño Jr., sisters; Francisca Perez, Juliana Rodriguez, Cristina Bueno, and Hermelinda Bueno. She is survived by her siblings Adelfa Niño, Manuel (Connie) Niño, and Roman (Barbara) Niño, her children, Robert Cardona Jr., Ruben (Norma) Cardona, Dalia (Larry) Farias, Roel (Lynette) Cardona, Cristina Cardona (Margarito Lopez), Jose Ricardo Cardona, Nora (Marc) Coty, Gloria (Francisco†) Lopez, 27 grandkids, 28 great-grandkids, her beloved chihuahua Chiquita, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pallbearers will be Jose Ricardo Cardona, Lulu Rodriguez, Ramon Hernandez, Ryan Cardona, Jose Homer Lopez, Ramiro Aguilar, Eric Cardona, Christopher Lopez, Tony Cardona, and Klay Cardona.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday March 19, 2021 at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm by Maria Juarez and Deacon Fernando Gonzalez. A mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
