Tribute

Mr. Romeo Ponce, 80, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was surrounded by his loved ones as he passed peacefully to be with the Lord. He was born on January 14, 1938 in Baytown, Texas.

Romeo spent 57 years with the love of his life Rebecca, and together they had one daughter whom they loved endlessly.  He was also very honored to serve in the U.S. Marines for 3 1/2 years. He served on the U.S.S. Oriskany and the U.S.S. Lexington from 1957 to 1960. After being honorably discharged from the United States Marines, he became employed by Celanese Chemical Company, where he worked for 30 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, and celebrating life with his family and friend.

After suffering a stroke in December of 2010 his loving wife became his full-time care taker. Always dedicating her time to making sure he was comfortable and taken care of.

Special thanks to Ominix Home Healthcare, Pam Pokorny, Peggy Tompkins, Cinthia Hernandez, Jennifer Baker, and Larry Fetchner for their outpouring of support to ensure Romeo was taken care of and made it to appointments.  As well as, Dr. Capili and his staff at West Chambers Medical Center.

Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Ponce will be George Barrera, Chase Barrera, Steven Clynes, Kenneth Garcia, Sidney Garcia, Robert Garcia Jr., and Roland Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexander Clynes and Nicholas Clynes. 

Mr. Ponce is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Gonzalez Ponce; his daughter Rebecca Ponce Barrera and husband, George of Baytown, Texas. His grand-daughter Chelsea Barrera Clynes and husband, Steven of Baytown, Texas. Grandson Chase Barrera and wife, Bene’of Houston, Texas. His Great-Grandsons Alexander and Nicholas Clynes of Baytown, Texas. His sisters Connie Rodriguez and Julie Ponce,of Houston, Texas and sister-in-laws Regina Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Rosa Belen Gonzalez of Baytown Texas. Along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gilbert Ponce and Josephine Contreras Ponce. Grandmother Doña Eluteria, Brother-in-Law Col. Gilbert Martinez, and his fur-pal Maximilliano Ponce.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary beginning at 7:00pm. Services for Romeo Ponce, will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 800 W Baker Rd in Baytown, Texas, with Father Khanh Ho, Celebrant.
