Raul Alaniz, Jr

Mr. Raul Alaniz, Jr., 85, of Baytown, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, in Houston.

Mr. Alaniz was born April 26, 1936 in Hebbronville, TX to parents; Raul, Sr. and Angelita Gonzalez Alaniz. Mr. Alaniz spent his formative years in  Detroit, Michigan where he would graduate from Western High School in 1955 and go on to serve 8 years in the Michigan National Guard.  As a chef and dance instructor, Mr. Alaniz relocated to Houston in 1964 where he prepared Roast Beef at the famous Shamrock Hilton Hotel by day and then danced the night away as an instructor at the Fred Astaire Dance Studios.  He fell in love with his favorite dance student Ora Dupuis and they became married in 1968. In the process of marriage, Mr. Alaniz took a part time job with Jeffery’s Print shop in River Oaks.  In 1969, Mr. Alaniz and his wife Ora relocated to Baytown to open a specialty print shop (spanish wedding invitations) where they served the entire community for more than 40 years. For his entire life, Mr. Alaniz was active in numerous dance groups, civil clubs, social clubs and fraternities including the Folk Dancers of Houston,  Eddie’s Ballroom,  The Old Timers Club, Mexico Bello and his beloved Knights of Columbus. Mr. Alaniz was a longtime parishioner at Our lady of Guadalupe and St. Joseph catholic churches in Baytown and most recently St. Francis de Sales in Houston. 

Mr. Alaniz was preceded in death by his parents,  wife:  Ora Dupuis Alaniz and siblings: Rudolpho Alaniz and Inosencia Kindt Alaniz

He is survived by his son:  Raul Antonio “Tony” Alaniz and wife Nora, grandchildren; Amanda Costly with husband Jason, Rudolpho Alaniz, Erin Ruiz with husband Jose and 6 great grandchildren: Jerric, Annette, Alora, Addison, Alivia and Grace :) 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday April 16, 2022, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel with services concluding thereafter.
