Peggy Jean Chaney

Peggy Jean Chaney, age 74, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019, at her residence surrounded by family.  She was born to the late Herbert R. and Arliss Meadows on July 11, 1944 in Sheffield, Alabama.

A former resident of Alabama, Peggy had resided in Texas for the past 43 years.  She was a graduate of Colbert County High School in Leighton, Alabama; a retired intelligence analyst for the Baytown Police Department and Harris County Sherriff’s Department; and a member of Eastside Church of Christ.  She enjoyed reading, cooking, and watching Alabama football (Roll Tide Roll). She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Peggy will be remembered as a loving homemaker, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Chaney was preceded in death by her parents and son:  Douglas Charles Chaney.  She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Dwight Douglas Chaney; daughter:  Rena Mobley and husband Hugh; brother:  James Raymond Meadows and wife Mary; grandchildren:  Emilie Downs and husband Joshua, Michael Chaney and wife Amanda, Markus Chaney, Matthew Chaney, Trace Mobley, Bryson Mobley, and Chaney Beth Mobley; great-grandchildren:  James Downs, Maddison Chaney, Mason Chaney, and Jacob Downs; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services following at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown.
