Melba S. “Honey” Spears, 78, of Baytown, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in Spring.
Melba was born January 1, 1940, in Goose Creek, to parents; Stoy Shamblin and Glenice Thurman, and has been a lifelong resident of Baytown. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, attended Lee College, and a retired senior vice president of Harris County Saving and Loan. Honey was also a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, the church care committee, Goose Creek Country Club, the Goose Creek Women’s Golf Association, the 58 Lunch Bunch, and was a volunteer for San Jacinto Methodist Hospital with 27 years of service. She also was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards.
Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her father: Stoy Shamblin, mother: Glenice Thurman Cooper, husband: Clayton D. Spears, brother: Don Shamblin, nephew: Danny Shamblin, brother-in-law: Ralph Spears, and sister-in-law: Shirley Erwin. She is survived by her daughters: Kelly Hopper and husband Drew and Debbie Hassenmiller and husband Steve, grandchildren: Chase Hopper and wife Lacey, Raine Hopper, Kara Hopper, Reilly Tejeda and husband Omar, Kristin Edwards husband Ben, Courtney Hassenmiller, and Kyle Teykl and husband Trevor, great-grandchildren: Valyn Hopper, Voltan Hopper, Clayton Edwards, Hudson Edwards, and Mila Tejeda, brothers and sisters-in-law: Jack and Marilyn Hopper and Chuck and Betty Harris, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown.
