Tribute

Marty Ball, 91, of Baytown, departed from this life to glory and peace with the Lord on October 14, 2019. Marty was born on February 7, 1928 in Goose Creek to parents James and Iola Spillers.

Marty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family along with God were the most important things to her. She helped support her family and husband while he acquired an education from Texas A&M. At least once a year she enjoyed taking a trip with the family to go look at the Texas wildflowers.   Almost every year she was on the road with her family to visit almost every state during summer excursions across the country.  Marty was an adventurous wife and partner as she traveled the world to accompany her husband while he was a consultant in the petroleum industry.  Marty was a true servant of the Lord. She spent her entire life answering His call to serve. She was a member at Memorial Baptist Church for over 6 decades. She taught Sunday school to young and old, she was a Girls in Action leader, and a member of the WMU (Women’s Missionary Union).

Marty was preceded in death by her parents; Husband of 69 years, Curt Ball; daughter, Robin Tompkins; sister, Jewel Fitzgerald; and brother, James Spillers.

She is survived by her children, Joel Ball, and Laurie Chilelli and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Joshua Tompkins, Abigail Tompkins, Carolyn Ball, and Jenny Cowan and husband, Andy; and great grandchildren, Holland Cowan, and Riley Cowan.

The family would like to extend a special and gracious thank you to Marty’s caregivers Sandra Queen, Maria Castillo, Erika Plasencio and Maria Palsencio.

Marty’s visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM in the chapel of Crespo and Jirrels Funeral and Cremation services, 6123 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX.

A memorial service will begin at 11 AM at Memorial Baptist Church followed by a remembrance luncheon. The family asks for you to bring memories of your loved ones, to share, in honor of them all.

John 14:2

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

"It Is Well with My Soul" is a hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. After suffering the loss of his children, Spafford wrote this beautiful hymn as a testament to the salvation he found in Jesus through the good and bad times in life.

IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul

It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o my soul

It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul

It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul
