MARGUERITE OLIVE THORN passed away on May 5, 2021. Born in Elizabeth, NJ on July 13, 1921 she was 99 years old. She had been a resident of Baytown since 1967 until her move to Clear Lake/League City area in 2018. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and loving friend who loved golf, bridge, reading and the Astros.
Her husband, John P. (Jack) Thorn, and her eldest daughter, Joanne Marie Canning, predeceased her. She is survived by her three children, Michael Thorn and his wife, Pamela, of Arkansas, Mary Ellen Blankenship and her husband, Gary, of Dallas, and Barbara Therese Thorn of Dripping Springs, grandchildren Kimberly Thorn Ormsbee (Troy), of League City, Lisa Canning Kelly (David), of Sulphur Springs, Paul Thorn of Austin, Sean Canning (Eva) of The Colony, Derek Blankenship (Kaitlin) of Dallas and Bryan Blankenship of Dallas, also four great grandchildren Gaven (Jessica) Canning, Kaylie Canning, Ashley Thorn and Holden Blankenship, four step-grandchildren, Tiffany, Alexis, Emmanuel and Avlynn and great great grandchild William.
Marguerite was an active volunteer in several organizations including Odyssey Hospice and Compassionate Friends. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association (with two holes in one in one year) and a member of the Ladies Association of Goose Creek Country Club. She was a participant in the Texas Senior Women’s Golf Association from age fifty-five to eighty-nine. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church where she had been a Eucharistic Minister.
