Joanne Fulks Young, 87, of Baytown, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, on February 25, 2021.
Joanne was born September 7, 1933, in Williamsburg, Virginia, to parents; Homer and Mable Burnett Fulks. As soon as she graduated she and her older and only sibling Joyce moved to Washington DC and worked for the federal government. She worked, married, and raised her family in the DC/VA area until she moved to Texas in 1981.
Joanne loved music; she played trumpet in her high school band, she loved and played the piano, taught herself to play the organ, she was blessed to play the piano or organ at whatever church she attended, was a member of Fisher Road Baptist for 27 years where she played the organ, wrote Christmas plays, and was their bookkeeper. She volunteered at the Pregnancy Resource Center, sang in a senior adult choir, and bowled on a league for many years in Virginia and Texas
Joanne retired after 27 years of civil service, ending with 18 years with the IRS. On one of her last doctor’s visits she was asked to say as many words as she could that started with the letter “f”, she struggled a little till she started quoting hymns. Church, music, and family were her care.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Homer and Mable Fulks, sister: Joyce Kush, and her daughter from her first marriage: Becky Jo Hart. She is survived by her daughter: Debbie Miller and husband Tom, son: Jim Young and wife Cecy, daughter: Vickie Young, son: Chip Young and wife Sheila, grandchildren: Candice Ottley, David Miller, Lauren Miller, Paula Ford, Jessica and Whitney Young, Jim Young, Jr., Janella Young, and Stephen Young, ten great-grandchildren, as well as many friends. She was loved and will be missed greatly.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Fisher Road Baptist Church.
