JoAnn McQueen Hechler, 84, of Beach City passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
She was born on September 19, 1939, in Camden, Texas, to Woodrow and Robbie (Griswold) McQueen. A life-long resident of Cedar Bayou and Baytown, she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, and went on to attend Lee College and Sam Houston State University. She married Leo Hechler in July of 1961. A stay-at-home mom and later an employee at the GCCISD tax office, she spent many hours attending twirling practices and contests and sewing costumes for her daughters. After retirement, she and Leo enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home and spending time with their grandchildren.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents and by son-in-law, Andrew Scott Porter. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leo Vincent Hechler; daughter Donna Porter; son-in-law and daughter Tracy and Lisa Andrus; grandchildren Carson, Keilan, and Kaci Andrus, and Hayden and Holden Porter; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Kathy McQueen; brother and sister-in-law Woody and Kay McQueen; very special niece Marcia Hechler Green; godchild/niece Kelly McQueen Torres, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pallbearers will be her four grandsons and nephews Dean Hechler and David Hechler.
Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Barnum, Texas.
