Tribute

Jesse Fernando Quijano, 61, of Baytown, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021, from the effects of Covid-19. He was born in Baytown on December 14, 1959, to Jesse Nava Quijano and Amada Vasquez Gilmete.

Jesse worked as a safety manager for 30+ years. He began his journey working in a refinery in Baytown, Texas. He had a degree in Occupational Safety and has worked in petrochemical facilities around the United States and in Mexico. He also sailed for Exxon for many years. Prior to all this, Jesse was a hair stylist who never lost his touch. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit. In the early eighties he opened “Quijano’s Hair Salon” which is fondly remembered by many in Baytown.

He had many favorite pastimes. One of was them was spending time with his children and granddaughters. He doted on them every chance that he had. Jesse also had good ear for music, especially Tejano music and listened to various artists from this genre. He also loved ballroom dancing as well as taking his motorcycle out for long rides. He also loved his Pitbull buddy Chato.

Jesse was a very ambitious individual and whatever goal that he set his mind on, he was going to achieve it.

Jesse was always “how did I do?” as he was always worried about doing his best with anything he participated in. It did not matter if it was being in a band, boxing, bike riding or moto cross. It was always important to him that he did his best.

Jesse was always a great friend and one that was there when you needed him. He never forgot his old friends from across the tracks. He had many friends old and young. His best friend of 54 years, Jesus Montalvo has shared many stories of Jesse and their friendship. When he ran across them, he always made sure to visit with them for a while or go fishing to catch up on the latest.

Jesse is preceded in death by his son Jesse Sisto Quijano, Father Jesse Nava Quijano, Mother Amada and Marcelino Gilmete, his brother Matthew Marcelino Gilmete, Jr. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Ann Quijano, son in law Tuyen Tran, Granddaughters Jessie Ann Tran and Lexi Ann Quijano, niece Valerie Gilmete,  Goddaughter Maria Del Rosario Guerrero and Pauline Rabel Guerrero, his cousins here and in Arizona plus many friends who loved him.

Jesse was loved by many friends and family. He has left a hole in our hearts. Until we meet again, we will keep you in our hearts.

The family has a private, intimate memorial service planned at a later date for close friends and family only.
