James "Jake" Fojt

James “Jake” Charles Fojt, 88, of Baytown, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, in his home.

Jake was born November 10, 1935, to parents Edna and Charlie Fojt, in Baytown where he grew up alongside his siblings Edwin and Elvie. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1954 and enlisted in the National Guard right after high school, serving a total of 9 years. He later went on to work for the Mundy Company where he stayed for 44 years, retiring as a Superintendent. Jake’s passion was on the circuit, driving the NHRA Stock Class for 20 years. In that time, he won 19 Wally’s and was considered a force to be reckoned with. Jake considered himself a lifelong Lutheran and called St. Paul’s Lutheran in Baytown his place of worship. He had a larger-than-life personality and was deeply loved by his family and friends.

Mister Fojt was preceded in death by his parents: Edna and Charlie Fojt, and siblings: Edwin Fojt and Elvie McCullough. He is survived by his loving wife: Helen Fojt, daughter: Michelle Fojt-Barnes and husband Monty Barnes, and grandchildren: Jacy and Bryce Barnes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a memorial service celebrating Jake’s life to follow at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran, 712 Schilling Ave, Baytown, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jake’s memory can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran General Fund.
