Howard Keith Underwood

Howard Keith Underwood, 64, died Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Houston Methodist Hospital in Baytown. He leaves behind his wife, Karla Phelps, his brother-in-law Mark Phelps, niece Krissy, nephews Alex, and Jeremy, and his 5 children, Jason Norton and his wife Christie, Debi Thompkins and her husband John, Jed and his wife Vanesa, Scout, and Charlotte, and 3 grandchildren, Angelina, Katelynn, and Clayton, and 2 beloved pets: Klaus and Max.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ruth Underwood, his in-laws Bill and Janet Phelps, as well as his mother-in-law Charlotte Bullock. Also predeceasing him is his nephew Marcus, and his great-nephew Zane Phelps.

Keith was born in Alabama, and raised in East Texas by John and Ruth Underwood, his parents. A lifelong hard worker, he worked for almost 30 years at IGI as a Plant Maintenance Supervisor, and before that used to work at the old paper mill on old 90. 

Keith’s greatest joy was his family, and everything he did was for them. He also enjoyed BBQing, overalls, and acting silly at every opportunity. He loved making his family and friends laugh. He was also one of the strongest, most determined, and stubborn men in the world.

Everyone who knew him knows the world has lost a man of integrity and kindness, and that it is worse for it. He will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Crespo and Jirrels funeral home at 2 pm. on August 13, 2019; 6123 Garth Rd. Baytown, TX 77521.
