Howard Harvey Hunt

Howard Harvey Hunt of Baytown, Texas, passed away on January 14, 2022, at the age of 91, from brain cancer. He was born on December 24, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Harvey Hector Hunt and Ollie Irene (Dyer) Hunt. Howard grew up in Conroe, Texas, where his parents established a grocery store. After serving as an electrician in the US Navy, he married Merle Marie Moody in Conroe, Texas, on August 22, 1955. Howard worked for Sinclair-Arco for 17 years before starting his own personnel businesses with Tom Warren: Certified Temporary Services and Certified Personnel Services.

Howard and his wife Merle both retired in 1994 eager to continue supporting local causes and volunteering full-time for the Baytown YMCA, the Baytown Nature Center, and the Nurture Nature Festival. They were founding members and served together on the board of the Friends of the Baytown Nature Center. Howard also served on the Baytown Parks and Recreation board for 17 years. In 2001 these two community volunteers were finalists for the Baytown Sun’s Citizen of the Year Award. As avid birders, Howard and his wife enjoyed traveling the globe. Their travels took them to six continents. Devoted game players, they encouraged others to come by to play their favorite card game hand and foot, or any other board, card, or dice game around.

Howard was preceded in death by his father, Harvey, his mother, Ollie, his wife Merle, his sons Nathen and Michael, and granddaughters Claire Hunt and Olivia (Hunt) Tapia. He is survived by one daughter Susan Flores (Sam); three sons Jack (Dianna), David (Marilyn), and Howard Noah (Susan); twelve grandchildren Matthew Hunt, Heather (Flores) Boren, Jesus Flores, Marcela (Flores) Robbins, Danielle (Hunt) Henderson, Miriam (Flores) Christian, Ian Hunt, Samantha (Hunt) Phelps, Aaron Hunt, Nicolas Hunt, Alexander Hunt, and Ethan Hunt; twenty-five great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 6-8 PM at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral and Cremation Services, 6123 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Friends of the Baytown Nature Center, P O Box 8177, Baytown, TX 77522.
