Glenna "Dyann" Conway

Dyann “Dee” Carey Conway, of Baytown, was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on May 11, 2021, at age 68.

Dyann was the self-less matriarch who enjoyed spending time with her family and expressing her love for them with food. It was guaranteed all meals would involve the statement, “Get yourself a second plate.” Her packed lunches were also legendary.  Many people came to her kitchen just to see the assortment of Little Debbie snacks.  She was funny — usually unintentionally - and had a good sense of humor about herself and life. Dyann’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, who all affectionately called her “Dee.” Countless recitals, plays, and sporting events ended with hugs and treats from the kids’ Number One Fan. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and she loved shopping for everyone.  The season began with a “Girl’s Shopping Day,” and concluded with a hayride in the back of Pop’s truck looking at Christmas lights.  Dyann was truly one-of-a-kind.

Dyann was born on June 17, 1952, in Cisco, TX. Dyann and her family moved to Baytown in 1968, and she graduated from Ross Sterling High School in 1970. Dyann married the love of her life, Joe Conway, in 1973. Shortly afterwards, she joined Exxon where she had a fulfilling career of over 35 years.

She is survived by her husband Joe Conway, of Baytown; her two daughters: Stefany Beal & her husband Troy, and Ashley Whitmeyer & her husband Travis; her six grandchildren: Carey, RG, & Conway Beal, and Archie, Oliver, and Benjamin Whitmeyer; her two brothers: Edwin Carey and Gayle Carey & his wife Alva; and her best friend, Betty Christy.

Dyann is preceded in death by her parents, Milton Carey and Mildred Browne Carey; her sisters: Vernelle Lindley and Patsy Terry; and her brothers: Winford Carey, Don Carey, and Ronald Carey. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be at the same location at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 17, with internment following at Memory Gardens in Baytown.
