Tribute

Floyd Allen Trchalek of Baytown, Texas, passed away on April 14, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease, dementia and congestive heart failure.

Floyd, 82 years young, was born on February 5, 1942 to Adele Yvonne Hlinstak and Edward Ladislav Trchalek in Houston, Texas.  Floyd attended Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown and barely graduated in 1961 (his favorite class was Hooky).  He joined the United States Air Force in February of 1962, serving the country he so loved and served as Airman First Class for four years when he was honorably discharged February 1966.

During his service he met Shirley Sage while stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas.  They later married in 1965, and together they had three daughters:  Julie Trchalek Moffitt, Amy Trchalek Burkhardt, and Tiffani Trchalek Farrell.  Along with his daughters he also had two sons – in – law:  Bruce D. Burkhardt, Jr and Billy Farrell.  Floyd also had six grandchildren he adored:  Zach Farrell, Jacob Burkhardt, Blake Burkhardt, Jarrod Farrell, Kyle Burkhardt, and Calleigh Moffitt.   He is survived by one brother, Edward “Sonny” Trchalek, and one brother-in-law, Charles Guidry, countless nieces and nephews.

Floyd was employed by Equistar (last acquisition) for 37 years when he retired in 2001.  He will be forever remembered for his gentle, kind soul and for his genuine, natural ability to turn everything into a joke.  Even in his last weeks he would tell the hospital staff his name was George Strait when asked if he could tell them his name (and yes, this was an intentional answer).  He never knew this trait would touch so many hearts, but he was loved (and probably annoyed a few) for this.

Floyd was predeceased by his parents, Edward Trchalek and Adele Stephenson, brother Norman Trchalek, and sisters Florine Trchalek, Shirley Newton, Evelynn Guidry, and Avis Irby.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crespo and Jirrels located at 6123 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521.  A visitation will be held on Friday, May 3rd from 5p – 8p with his service Saturday, May 4th at 11a.
