Dorothy “Jean” McDonald Slanina, 88, of Baytown, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021, at her residence.
Jean was born August 18, 1932 in Houston, to parents; William Oscar and Mary Frances Merta McDonald, a former resident of Channelview, and has resided in Baytown for the past 66 years. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, received her nursing education through Lee College, was a retired RN from St. Luke’s Hospital, and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Jean also enjoyed gardening, fishing, travel, reading, working crossword puzzles, and very interested in history.
Mrs. Slanina was preceded in death by her parents and grandson: Gregory Gene Slanina. She is survived by her son: Robert Gene Slanina, daughter: Kathy Golla and husband Joe, sisters: Claire Hechlar and Theresa Corbett, brother: William “Billy” McDonald, grandchildren: Kim Slanina, Chris Golla, Caleb Golla, and Jami Slanina, great-grandson: Michael Falls, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with rosary services at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baytown with interment following at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston.
