Tribute

Carol Stanley, 67, of Baytown, passed away on January 15, 2022 after a long and valiant fight with ovarian cancer.

Carol was born in Sinton, Texas, on July 13, 1954.  She grew up in Greenfield, Massachusetts where she enjoyed spending time in the beautiful outdoors fishing and ice-skating with her lifelong friends, Val Rowell and Sue Smith.  After she moved to Texas, she married Bob Stanley and developed a love for softball and coaching Janice’s softball team.  In 1991, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and her active life changed. She retired from the City of Baytown tax office and spent many years raising cattle on her farm in Buffalo, Texas with her husband until his passing.

During her retirement years, she cherished spending time with her daughter, but her greatest joy was taking care of her two granddaughters. As babies, she adored taking them for walks around the block in their strollers, playing in their swimming pool, and later spending movie nights together. She would always enjoy playing cards with Allie, cheering loudly at Olivia’s soccer games, and attending many of their dance recitals and competitions with flowers in hand. She enjoyed late nights in the backyard playing Chickenfoot with neighbors, going to swim class, and building puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her father Manfred Riebschlaeger, mother N.Edith Hurlburt, her husband Bob Stanley, and her aunt Alice Smith

She is survived by her son, Anthony Arial, daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Don Romaine, granddaughters Olivia and Allie Romaine, and her brothers Manfred Riebschlaeger and wife Arleen, David Riebschlaeger and wife Nancy, Jim Riebschlaeger, and Larry Reid. Some very special friends also survive her: Deanna Ball, Suzi Tallent, Irma Montez, and Mike and Jasna Schooley.
