Carl Ernest Holzaepfel was born on March 24, 1940, in Sealy, TX to Chris and Mae Holzaepfel. Carl was born on Easter Sunday in 1940 and Easter has never fallen on that day again in 82 years. He passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, comfortably at home surrounded by his family.
In 1958, he met Lynda Ann Dawson at a street dance on Commerce Street in Baytown, TX. In 1960 they married and have been together for the last 61 years. Carl is a 1958 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, attended Lee College, and was a member of the Rebel Wranglers. He worked for Baytown Fire Department from 1967 to 1977 and was a Lieutenant at Station 3 on South Main. Carl maintained his certification as a firefighter and EMT until he was in his late 70s, and he previously volunteered for emergency services in Beach City, Cove, and Mont Belvieu. He owned and operated Holzaepfel Gun Shop on Cleveland Street in Pelly in the 1960s and 70s. Carl then worked with his brother, Stanley Don Holzaepfel, at Holzaepfel Construction Company (HCCI), until their retirement. Carl and his brother Stan always looked after each other and Stan remained by Carl’s side until Carl’s passing.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Ann Holzaepfel, and their three children, Angela Kay Landers and her husband Jim Landers of Baytown, Carl Scott Holzaepfel of Baytown, and Ryan Dawson Holzaepfel and his wife Jody Holzaepfel of Baytown. He is also survived by his brother, Stan Holzaepfel and wife Shirley of Baytown. He leaves behind six grandchildren, Heath Dutton and wife Cassie of Baytown, Brooke Dutton of Anahuac, Lindsey Gray of Kingwood, Baleigh Ullrich and husband Hunter of Anahuac, Travis Landers and wife Taryn of Baytown, Grant Holzaepfel of Baytown and great grandchildren, Brock, Dawson, and Kopelyn Dutton, Kapri Morales, Bowen, and Stori Ullrich, Easton and Wyatt Landers, and Everleigh and Jayce Gray.
Visitation will be at Crespo & Jirrels at 6123 Garth Road in Baytown, TX from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, April 13th. Services will be held at Trinity Assembly at 1008 E. Lobit in Baytown, TX, on Thursday, April 14th at 10:30am, where he was a lifelong member since the 1940s. Graveside services will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery, 3010 Ferry Road, Baytown, TX.
