Tribute

Antonio Salazar, Jr., 76, beloved brother, uncle and loyal friend passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at Harbor Hospice in Houston, TX, surrounded by family. He was born May 29, 1942 in Baytown, TX.

Antonio was affectionately known as "Ningo" since childhood because a young family member couldn't pronounce nino, and the nickname stuck forever. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Antonio was a very loving brother, uncle & friend to his family and friends, and enjoyed keeping up with them with daily phone calls he graced everyone with faithfully, especially to his sisters, Rosemary and Frances. Recently, his sister, Frances, passed away, and his heart was forever broken causing his health to deteriorate daily. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially Encore Westerns and sports of all kinds, from football to boxing. Football season was his favorite time of year as he enjoyed watching NFL games. To really make it an interesting football season and get his family and friends involved in his love of the game, he created small time football pots and called on all the friends and family to see how many squares he could put us down for. He used this hobby as a way to stay in touch with everyone since rheumatoid arthritis kept him bound to the house. Everyone knew this made him happy and gracefully participated, jokingly referring to him as our family bookie.

Mr. Salazar was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Petra Salazar; Sisters, Lucy Martinez and Frances Estrada; Brothers, Guadalupe Salazar, Augustine (Gus) Salazar and Genaro Salazar, Sr.; and Grandmother, Francisca Davalos. He leaves to cherish his memory, a brother, Roberto Salazar and wife, Alicia, of Schertz, TX; sister, Rosemary Ramirez of Baytown, TX; and Sister-in-law, Maria Elena Salazar of Crosby, TX. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was truly loved and will be missed by all his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:30p.m., on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Crespo & Jirrels. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Friday, July 6, 2018.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roberto Salazar, Abel Coy, James Springer, Anthony Partida, Albert Estrada, Adrian Valencia, Genaro Salazar, Jr., Chris Salazar, and Ernie Salazar.
