Henry David Adair

September 5, 1940 ~ October 4, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Henry David Adair, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed from this life into the next.  He was 77 years old.

Henry was born on a small family farm on September 4, 1940 in Lone Oak, Texas to John L. and Mary A. Shroyer Adair, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in Mont Belvieu for the past 36 years.

Henry lived and worked in the Houston and Mont Belvieu area.  His alma maters included David Burnet Elementary, Baytown Jr. High, Robert E. Lee High School, and Sam Houston State University where he lettered in football.  Anecdotes of his days at Sam Houston, now a part of his family’s oral history, include his hitchhiking to Huntsville and receiving an athletic scholarship as a walk on when his father informed him there was not enough money to send him to college.  Henry made the dreams of many such students come true by offering scholarships to deserving, hardworking students.

Henry was a faithful servant in his community, serving on the following boards, to mention a few; Beach City City Council, Barbers Hill School Board, Barbers Hill ISD Trustee, West Chambers County Chamber of Commerce, Trinity Valley Exposition, Sam Houston Alumni Association, Sam Houston Ex-Former Lettermen, Chambers County Appraisal District, Mont Belvieu State Bank, and Barbers Hill Honorary Eagle in August 2016.  Henry was the “go to guy”, if anyone had questions about salt dome storage of gas and oil, or abatement of taxes throughout the US.  His work experience was, as follows; Supply Manager of Siemens/ARCO Chemical, VP of United Petroleum Distribution, Ex-VP of Liberty Terminals, and President of Home Energy, Inc.

Henry married Kay Phillips of Waco and they produced a beautiful daughter, Jill Adair Briley who is married to Gary of Lakeway.  Also surviving Henry is Carolyn Bennett of Channelview, the mother of his second daughter, Alison Brooke Adair of Washington.  Henry’s current wife, Cynthia Nicolini, who brought to their marriage two more daughters, Heidi Teraoka who is married to Daryl of Hawaii and Dr. Angela Nicolini of Abilene, whom Henry thought of as his own.  Also surviving Henry are his sister, Alicia Wilson and husband Clyde of Houston, his nieces and nephews:  Stacy Adair, Brett Mace, and Ashley Mace Holsten, numerous grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.  Henry is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Lawrence Adair.

The family invites friends and loved ones to visit with them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the Crespo and Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at the Crespo and Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel with Jacob Porter officiating, and services concluding in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Barbers Hill ISD Sports Hall of Honor. Payments can be sent to BHISD Sports Hall of Honor, P.O. Box 1108 Mont Belvieu, Texas 77580.
