Estella Mae Merritt

Estella Mae Merritt passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 18, 2017 at Swan Manor Assisted Living in Baytown, Texas just 40 days short of her 84th birthday.

Estella was born in Baytown, Texas on May 28, 1933 to John G. Wolff and Lena Wolff. Estella and her husband, D.M., were commercial fisherman in Delcombre, La for 20 years. She loved cooking seafood and having her family over for dinner. One of her favorite pastimes was mowing her acre of property on her riding lawnmower.

Estella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, Douglas M.  Merritt; and her daughter, Barbara Tolleson and son-in-law, Ronald Tolleson.

She is survived by her children :  Deborah Cuneo and son-in-law Richard; Gary Merritt and daughter-in-law Cheryl; and Douglas Merritt. Also surviving are grandchildren : Brent Carlisle; Shanna Leavins and her husband, Buck; Tiffany Partin and her husband, Dan; Maureen Carbajal; and Hailea Merritt. She has 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Swan Manor Assisted Living, which was her home and second family for over 8 years.

Family and friends will be received at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7122 Whiting Rock St, Baytown, Tx 77521 on Saturday, April 22nd. A rosary will be prayed at the church at 8:30 AM. Visitation will immediately follow from 9:00 - 9:45 AM. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Earthman Memory Gardens in Baytown, Tx.

Pallbearers will be Brent Carlisle, Buck Leavins, Ross Leavins, George Gilmore, Robin Tolleson and Joey Merritt.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, 7122 Whiting Rock St, Baytown, TX 77521.
